Memorials
We have a large selection of memorials in stock in our yard, which can be viewed during our opening hours. Many of the granite colours can vary extensively, and so if possible, we do recommend visiting our yard in order to choose the exact memorial.
We are also able to make any bespoke design of memorial, subject to the approval of the cemetery or churchyard.
Renovation
Weather can have a negative impact on the stone’s state over time.
We provide a comprehensive refurbishment service throughout Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, and Cambridgeshire.
War Memorials
We have been cleaning and renovating local war memorials in the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, and Cambridgeshire region for many years and therefore have extensive experience in repair work, renovations, lead lettering, re-gilding, and sign painting. We are experienced in cleaning all types of materials, including marble, portland, nabresina, limestone, polished granite, and rustic granite.
The method for cleaning and renovating each war memorial will vary, as every memorial has to be assessed according to the material it is made from, its style of lettering, and any damage it may have. Where applicable, we follow the War Memorials Trust guidelines and can provide a method statement if required.
Additional Inscription
As well as supplying new memorials, we are also highly experienced in adding inscriptions to existing memorials.
Over the years, with the development of machinery and now computers, the way of lettering a memorial has changed. We are, however, still able to use most fonts and lettering styles, whether it be a traditional hand-cut letter or a more modern computer-generated one, sandblasted letter.
Fixing materials
All our memorials are fixed according to the regulations of the National Association of Memorial Masons (NAMM).
Our memorials are fixed using stainless steel dowels and a 3-foot regulations anchor pole that comply with the government health and safety code BS8415.
Our memorial fixers have the RQMF fixers license as well as many years of practical experience.
Memorial Materials and Finishes
Today most memorials are made from granite and in cemeteries have a highly polished finish. In churchyards, however, the finish must be a honed finish and non-reflective.
We also supply and make memorials in Yorkstone, Portland stone, Nabresina, and Carrera white marble. These stones are a softer, more traditional material, and the finish is non-reflective. All of which (apart from marble) are usually permitted in our local churchyards.
